  1. The benefits of custom machined parts

Custom-Machined-Parts-Feb.-2016-Blog-ImageAlthough many suppliers say they deliver custom machined parts, customers can often be left with a piece that is unsatisfactory. One leading cause of dissatisfaction is that suppliers will grab a part that they already have and modify the piece from there. At Caylor our promise is to save our customers from experiencing this kind of headache. When we say “custom” we mean just that.

Our Caylor Industrial team specializes in the production of high-quality machined parts, made to precise specifications, in order to meet all engineering requirements. 2. The final word on 2015

Yes, another 12 months have come and gone and we are about to end another year. This year was busy, successful, and interesting as the economy and manufacturing enjoyed modest growth and a sense of stability. Our connections to a wide range of industries (construction, manufacturing, plumbing, oil, electrical) and applications throughout all industrial sectors, enables us to interact with broad user base.

2015-to-2016-dice-image-300x200Over this past year we have reached out to our readers through our monthly blog posts to “talk” about general industry trends, specialized topics, and information regarding our products. The blog is our way to cover a wide range of topics we feel are important to our customers and a modern way to connect. We have featured topics on saving water (preventing leaks and using sprinkler systems) during summer drought conditions and preventing heat loss (benefits of pipe insulation) in winter.

Electricians benefited from a post about safety and proper fittings and conduit and in June we highlighted National Safety Month. To help construction workers and contractors be more productive, this post showcased industrial hardware and tools that improve organization and help meet the demands of the industry. Being a family owned and operated business means we consistently work toward providing the highest quality service and products to every customer. We explained our business ethics in this post.

We are thankful for the opportunity to serve our customers and their industries with top-quality valves, fittings, and pipe and tube hanging supplies. From the Caylor family to yours, we wish you all the best. Happy Holidays!

  3. Safety is a major concern for electricians and the systems they install

It’s easy to overlook how dangerous electricity can be since we interact with it every moment of every day. Electrical systems range from general wiring to elaborate fire and security systems. Electricity isn’t an easy DIY project and should only be trusted to licensed electricians who understand the importance of following and adhering to safety codes and standards.

Electricians are well versed in the specifications of the National Fire Protection Association’s National Electrical Code®. In all 50 states the NFPA 70 code is the “benchmark for safe electrical design, installation, and inspection to protect people and property from electrical hazards.” Meeting the requirements means using hardware and equipment that also meets the specifications put forth in the NEC.

Many industries struggle with electrical service in areas that could Electric Image Oct. Blogpose potential hazards. For example, in food plants, wet or dusty environments could cause electrical system malfunctions if not properly installed or maintained. In new construction, questions regarding the type of conduit and fittings must be addressed so that all components are suitable to meet code requirements.

As a premier provider of industrial and hardware supplies, we are able to provide the products that will meet all aspects of electrical projects and code requirements. With extensive experience in all types of industrial and commercial sectors, we are the ideal supplier to work with on any type of project. With an inventory that includes a wide range of fittings, pipe hangers, tube hangers, pipe rollers, supports, structural steel and metal alloy products, we have whatever an electrician needs to safely complete the job.

In addition to stock items, Caylor offers custom machining services to provide specific products needed for unique requirements. No matter what type of project an electrician is working on, we have the highest quality supplies to meet all necessary code requirements.

  4. Contractors and construction workers are more productive and stay organized with the right industrial hardware, tools and supplies

U.S. construction activity has been building a lot of momentum this year, according to recent reports and what we’ve been seeing and hearing in the industry. Construction employment continues to grow, rising to the highest levels since February 2009. ConstructionCitizen.com states, “Residential construction employment (residential building and specialty trade contractors) climbed by 8,500 for the month [May] and 149,000 (6.5%) over 12 months. Nonresidential construction employment (building, specialty trades, and heavy and civil engineering construction) increased by 8,600 and 124,300 (3.3%), respectively.” In layman’s terms, construction businesses are increasingly busy and there is no end in foresight. To do our jobs well, and to be as effective and organized as possible, everyone working within the construction industry needs the right industrial hardware and tools. We’ve got the industrial hardware and supplies that contractors and construction workers need to keep up with the industry’s demands at Caylor Industrial, including these newly released products:

    • M18 FUEL™ Magnet Drills offer unmatched productivity and safety:  The newest additions to the M18 FUEL™ line, the M18 FUEL™ 1-1/2” Magnetic Drill and the M18 FUEL™ 1-1/2” Lineman Magnetic Drill use the most advanced drilling Milwuakee M18 Magnetic Drill Caylor Blog Imagetechnologies available today. These new drills, which started shipping on July 15th, are faster than their corded counterparts, they deliver the strongest magnetic hold on ¼” steel, and they can drill up to (4) 13/16” holes per charge. They’re so effective and safe because both new drills utilize permanent magnets, and the magnetic bases operate without electricity. This means the magnet does NOT deactivate if the battery drains.
    • Be more productive and more organized with Milwaukee’s Jobsite Organizer: The Jobsite Organizer started shipping in June and it is considered to be the most versatile organizer on the market today. Not only are construction industry workers using the Jobsite Organizer, but workers in just about any industry – HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and farming and agriculture. All can be more productive and organized with this new product. The Jobsite Organizer provides users with more space to help with efficiency, providing up to 20% more capacity than competitive units. It features mountable bins Milwuakee Jobsite Organizer Caylor Blog Imagethat can be stacked and attached together. But, the best part about this feature is that you still have full access to each bin when you’ve attached them together! This isn’t the only exceptional feature: Users say that what they like best about the Jobsite Organizer is that it helps them with productivity. Because it features “no-travel bin seals” with integrated weather seals, they prevent contents from migrating between bins during transport, and also protect contents from being damaged by water, saving users time and money.

  5. Ethics drive our business philosophy and approach at caylor industrial sales

Say the word “ethics” and the varied reactions you get depend on Ethics-blog-image-3how an individual defines the word, their own beliefs on right versus wrong, and the execution to the approach of getting something done the “right” way. Say the word “ethics” in regards to industrial supply warehouses that offer valves, fittings, pipes, tube hangers, and other industrial hardware, and you get the gist of how we run business at Caylor Industrial Sales. There is very little interpretation available for something so concrete. In fact, BusinessDictionary.com defines “ethics” as “the basic concepts and fundamental principles of decent human conduct.” In other words, how we treat one another, and the type of quality service we provide.

However you define “ethics,” you can rest assured that business at Ethics-blog-image-1Caylor Industrial has been built on a solid foundation as such. We are determined to provide our customers with the highest of quality products and services. All of our products are supplied from the best manufacturers in the industry, and each (pipes, valves, fittings, tubing, structural steel and more)go through a quality-control (QC) process to meet our high expectations and standards, in order to see our customers’ needs in the most ethical way.

Our business practices are, and have always been, concentrated on Ethics-blog-image-2helping our customers succeed in business. We recognize that time is valuable. We understand the constraints of working within budgets. We know that quality is of the utmost importance. As a direct result, we stock the products our customers use the most, and constantly strive to expand our product line.

Since our business first began in 1980, Caylor Industrial has recognized the importance of completing timely work without jeopardizing the quality. When someone looks for fittings, valves, pipes and other industrial hardware, we supply the high-quality hardware they need as quickly as possible. All in all, ethics drive our business philosophy and Ethics-blog-image-4approach. We know we’ve said this before, but we will continue to say it again: Our company was built on service, and 35 years later we continue to live by that rule at Caylor Industrial Sales.

  6. Sprinkler systems can help to conserve water in drought-stricken states

Drought-NYT-Article-ImageWater, irrigation and drought are popular news topics in 2015, and rightly so. “California is facing an unprecedented water crisis, with 98 percent of the state experiencing some level of drought, and 44 percent experiencing extreme drought,” says Anthony LaFetra, President of Rain Bird Corporation, manufacturers of irrigation products, in a statement on the company’s website. In April this year, California Governor Jerry Brown ordered the first-ever mandatory statewide water rationing. A recent New York Times article quotes Governor Brown as saying, “We are embarked upon an experiment that no one has ever tried,” regarding his mandate that Californians cut their water use by 25 percent.

In his statement on the Rain Bird website, LaFetra also says that, according to the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), more than half of all residential water use in California takes place outdoors. He adds, “The ACWA also estimates that California residents tend to over-water outdoor plants and lawns by as much as 60 percent. These statistics indicate a tremendous opportunity to use this valuable resource more efficiently throughout California and the rest of the world.” LaFetra also says that Governor Brown’s mandate “has brought a long-standing issue to the forefront of the state’s consciousness—perhaps even to the world’s. The conversation has finally turned from how we should use less water to how we must use less water.” This is where and how sprinkler systems and irrigation products can help to conserve water in California and other drought-stricken states.

Nat-Geo-Drought-Image-300x186It’s not just California that is experiencing a drought, and it’s not just today, in 2015, that officials are worried about: Drought conditions are predicted to impact a large part of the country in the coming decades, too. A recent study by scientists from NASA, Columbia University and Cornell University predicts that there is a “megadrought” on its way. As reported by National Geographic, the study says “the chances of a 35-year or longer ‘megadrought’ striking the Southwest and central Great Plains by 2100 are above 80 percent if the world stays on its current trajectory of greenhouse gas emissions.” Looking ahead, and right now, water conservation needs to be taken seriously.

When it comes to conserving water resources, residences and commercial properties, plus businesses and industries that rely on irrigation systems to get their jobs done, can all use their irrigation and sprinkler systems to their advantage and comply with mandatory regulations regarding water use, when necessary. Irrigation systems can help everyone use water wisely, and use water efficiently. At Caylor Industrial, we supply the necessary valves, parts and components for the installation and maintenance of water-efficient irrigation systems for homes, schools, parks, sports fields, golf courses, businesses, farms, and any location with a sprinkler system or an irrigation system. Contact us with any questions you may have, or visit our online catalog to find the irrigation valves, fittings and parts you need.

  7. Safety at work in manufacturing and industry: pipe hangers help keep everyone safe by ensuring piping stays secure and in place

caylor-about-us imageNational Safety Month is being celebrated this month (June), but safety is something businesses and manufacturing industries focus on, or should be focusing on, all year long. A recent article from SafetyandHealth.com offers several tips for safety leaders in business and industry. The article recommends that the people responsible for creating the “safety culture” in organizations should conduct some type of “physical hazard identification system.” The article says, “Even if workers are practicing safe behaviors and doing everything correctly, they still may be at risk from a hazard without realizing it. Supervisors can mitigate this by broadening their visual scan beyond workers’ actions to look for potential exposures in surrounding conditions and equipment.”

In any workplace, but especially in manufacturing and industry, workers’ surrounding environments most likely include some type of piping, though we don’t often think or hear about it as part of a company’s “safety culture.” National Safety Month is a good time to be reminded about some of the behind-the-scenes details and items that play a big role in workplace safety, like the pipe hangers, tube hangers and other industrial hardware and components that help to contribute to a safe work environment.

Pipe hangers and tube hangers are used for a variety of industrial applications and in all building design. Sometimes they’re visible to building occupants, and other times they’re hidden behind ceiling tiles, walls and closed doors. Either way, pipe hangers and tube hangers are doing their job; keeping piping secure, in place, and helping to keep building occupants safe.

At Caylor Industrial Sales, we stock a wide variety of pipe hangers, tube hangers, and we also offer custom hangers. The pipe hangers we supply are used for many different applications and they’re used by just about every industry. You can find them in food processing plants, water treatment plants, paper mills, pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemical plants, hospitals, and more.

There are many different types of pipe hangers, including Clevis Sprinkler Pipe Hangers and Split Ring Pipe Hangers. The pipe hangers we offer are made of Type 304 or Type 316 stainless steel. For more information about the pipe hangers, pipe rollers, and roller supports we offer at Caylor Industrial, visit our website, or call us at 706-266-3198 if you have any questions.

  8. Conserve water and prevent leaks with fittings for plumbing purposes

Water conservation is a hot topic right now, as it should be! According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), “A typical household uses approximately 260 gallons of water every day. We can reduce this amount and save money by using water more efficiently — detecting and fixing leaky faucets…” and by taking other measures, as well. Additionally, look at what’s been happening in California; a historic drought has forced the state to call for mandatory cutbacks in water use. According to a recent article in The New York Times, “The state Water Resources Control Board will draft emergency regulations to carry out the governor’s mandatory order. Water providers should start showing reduced water use beginning this summer.”

Caylor Industrial Fitting ImageWhether water conservation is mandated or not, we should all do our part to help conserve water, and this is where plumbing fittings play an important role in helping to prevent leaks. Fittings used for plumbing purposes can help keep water flowing where and when it should be flowing. In general, fittings are used throughout plumbing and piping systems to connect pipe and tubing sections of different shapes and sizes, and they can help to prevent leaks. Sometimes, they’re also required to regulate the flow of water and other fluids.

At Caylor Industrial, we carry all types of fittings used for plumbing purposes, including:

    • PVC fittings
    • Legris fittings
    • Malleable fittings
    • Brass fittings
    • Stainless fittings
    • Forged steel fittings
    • Hose fittings

Headquartered in Dalton, Georgia, USA, Caylor Industrial is one of the largest full-service industrial supply warehouses in Northeast Georgia. We meet our customers’ individual hardware and industrial supply needs by carrying fittings, valves, and pipe and tube hangers. If you’re in the area, we welcome you to stop by to see how much we warehouse. Or, at any time, you can take a look at our online catalog to see the assortment of fittings – and everything else – we carry in our inventory. Reach out to us through email at info@caylorindsales.com, if you have any questions or for more information.

  9. Pipe hangers, pipe rollers and roller supports can keep piping supported and keep industrial building design organized (in a ‘feng shui’ way!)

    Caylor

You’ve probably heard about “Feng Shui” before. If not, in very general terms, it’s the ancient science and philosophy that applies to the design of our homes and work spaces. Feng Shui focuses on the organization and “flow” of energy in a space, and is said to promote well-being and prosperity and, overall, to create a healthy environment of positivity. According to the TravelChinaGuide.com website, “Architectural Feng Shui is the soul of China’s ancient architectural theories. It enjoys a high status in China’s architecture history… Feng Shui stresses symmetry in architecture. Many ancient Chinese constructions are bilaterally symmetrical…Curves are also preferred during construction process,” symbolizing vitality in Feng Shui.

While you may be familiar with Feng Shui concepts now, it’s highly unlikely you’ve ever thought about how Feng Shui concepts can be applied to industrial piping, right? Well, maybe it’s time to consider how pipe hangers, pipe rollers and roller supports can help you keep things organized, neat and uniform on the ceilings, walls and roofs of industrial buildings – to help keep business operations “flowing” in a Feng Shui, positive sort of way?

In the book Feng Shui for Architecture by Simona F. Mainini, the author says that while she was studying architecture and visiting Hong Kong she discovered that, in China, “apparently no custom home, no corporate building, no commercial investment was even planned without first consulting one of these [Feng Shui] experts.” So, why not take a concept that’s been so effective for building design in China for so many years and apply it to our industrial/work environments here, in North America, in 2015?

How to apply Feng Shui concepts to our industrial buildings and facilities:

Pipe hangers, pipe rollers and roller supports are pipe supports that can help industrial building design stay uniform, symmetrical or curved, while keeping facility operations neat and clean. At Caylor Industrial Sales, we offer all types of pipe hangers, pipe rollers and roller supports. Back in the day, there were a limited number of ways you could hang and support stainless steel piping (and, honestly, these limitations were so NOT “Feng Shui” J). Today, we have more options: We offer pipe hangers, pipe rollers and roller supports all manufactured in Type 304 or Type 316 stainless steel, which feature chemical-resistance, durability and design possibilities.

Pipes and piping support are often afterthoughts in industrial building design and architecture, but it shouldn’t be – and doesn’t have to be – this way. In any type of building or industrial facility where you have pipes running throughout the industrial space, pipe hangers, pipe rollers and roller supports can be used to keep the piping supported and the overall building design neat and clean — in a Feng-Shui way! If you’d like more information about the pipe hangers, pipe rollers and roller supports we offer, please visit our website.
